Beautiful.

surefireshot:ninzo:anniilaugh:rareredmeat:chaoticclutteredmind:

Deep in the rainforests of the Indian state of Meghalaya, bridges are not built, they’re grown. For more than 500 years locals have guided roots and vines from the native Ficus Elastica (rubber tree) across rivers, using hollowed out trees to create root guidance systems. When the roots and vines reach the opposite bank they are allowed to take root. Some of the bridges are over 100 feet long and can support the weight of 50 people.

did any of you guys watch human planet? it was really good and they featured these people who make the bridges!

my mind was just blown from all the respect, all I can do is just stare at this beauty in awe

well your conclusion “slavery” is overstretched, but let’s look at this in detail.

The owner of the capital does nothing but get a piece of paper from the state saying he gets to choose when people are allowed to use this material. He then lets workers use the material under certain conditions, and because almost all of the resources in the world are owned by private capital owners, the worker is forced to accept. Because the owner got that sheet of paper, they get to choose how much they manipulate the worker and they get to keep the surplus, even though they do nothing other than deny others the right to use capital except under certain circumstances.

You might say “but the capital owner organized the workers and maintained order… etc”.

However, this is equally possible under a socialist system where the workers on the means of production.

Let’s take this hypothetical scenario and apply it to socialism. The workers control the means of production and an entrepreneur has a business idea. The entrepreneur can make a deal with workers who agree to work to make and develop a profit and will give the entrepreneur a salary in exchange for the ideas. If the entrepreneur thinks he is being duped by the workers, he could build the product himself, since while working he has access to the means of production. He could organize his own group of workers to build the product. Or he could find a group of workers willing to pay him what he wants in exchange for his business plan. The workers own the right to their labor, the entrepreneur owns the right to his.

From Steve Rosenbaum:

Google’s terms and conditions, buried in tiny print that most users will miss, gives them the right to take control of your content.

“By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. You agree that this license includes a right for Google to make such Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals with whom Google has relationships for the provision of syndicated services, and to use such Content in connection with the provision of those services.”

The key terms here are Perpetual, Royalty-Free - and most disturbingly - Adapt and Modify.

This means that if you’ve taken pictures of a sunset, or fireworks, or your children playing with a toy - or anything - Google has the right to grab those images, edit them, publishing them, and re-sell them.

If you think the answer is simply that you won’t put any pictures on your G+ page, think again. Google REQUIRES you to link your Picasa account to your G+ account, and therefore requires you to license your Picasa to them under their Royalty-Free contract.

Well, shit.

Spread the word.

OH SHI-

Wasn’t gonna do it regardless. Already switched from Myspace. :P
